Retainers

What is a retainer?

A retainer is a custom-made appliance that you wear, usually at night, after you’ve completed your orthodontic treatment. Once you’ve removed your braces you’ll be fitted for a retainer – and wearing your retainer will make sure your teeth stay in their new position for years to come.

Help ensure lasting results

The best way to keep that beautiful new smile looking good is a retainer - either a removable one you wear at night or a permanent one that is fixed to the back of your teeth.

When we remove your braces, we will begin the retention stage of your treatment, which lasts for a minimum of 12 months. In most cases it’ll continue indefinitely. Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainers, so you’ll need to follow through with the hard work you've put in so far.

Retainer

Everyone’s teeth will naturally shift over time. A retainer will simply encourage them to stay where they are, maximising the longevity of your new smile. For best results, follow your orthodontist’s recommendations on when to wear your retainer and how to care for it.
